چکیده

AMYLOIDOSIS is caused by the accumulation of amyloid fibrils in vital organs, leading to functional disturbances. Approximately 40% of patients with primary amyloidosis have had cardiac amyloidosis. In cardiac amyloidosis, right heart failure is the predominant sign, whereas left heart function is preserved until late in the disease. Because of the cardiac involvement, when patients with cardiac amyloidosis undergo surgery, anesthesia can present special risks. In addition to the conduction disturbance and cardiac failure that are the main causes of death in cardiac amyloidosis, ischemic changes have been reported extensively. However, there have been no reports concerning perioperative myocardial ischemia in patients with cardiac amyloidosis. Here we report on four patients with cardiac amyloidosis who developed fatal perioperative cardiac arrest resulting from myocardial infarction.

Perioperative beta blockers in patients having non-cardiac surgery: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines on perioperative assessment recommend perioperative beta blockers for non-cardiac surgery, although results of some clinical trials seem not to support this recommendation. We aimed to critically review the evidence to assess the use of perioperative beta blockers in patients having non-cardiac surgery...

QT-Dispersion as a potential marker in prognosis of acute myocardial infarction

Introduction: QT dispersion in a 12 lead ECG represents the heterogeneity of ventricular repolarization. The prolongation of QT-interval dispersion increases the risk of coronary heart disease, ventricular arrhythmia, and sudden cardiac death in patients with myocardial infarction. We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of QT-dispersion in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Meth...

Embolic Infarction Associated with Cardiac Amyloidosis

Embolic cerebral infarction due to cardiac amyloidosis is rare. We report two patients with amyloidosis who developed cerebral infarcts. These embolic infarcts were probably related to cardiac involvement of amyloidosis, which was based on results of myocardial biopsy (Patient 1), and kidney biopsy and characteristic echocardiographic features including granular sparkling, restrictive cardiomyo...
